Well, I've managed to go bio-less and friend-policy-less since 2002, on the assumption that it would be rather self-aggrandizing to go around trumpeting MY RULEZ!!!, on the grounds that there are only about six people who read this thing with any sort of frequency. Which seems to be not the case anymore.
There are basically two types of people I "friend" (still dealing with the fact that "friend" is a verb now ^__^) on LiveJournal -- the first are IRL friends; people I've actually met in person and have known for lots of years (with, like, drinking and slumbering-at-each-other's-homes and occasionally weeping sessions with hugging. Or at least attended a Con or two. Or wedding. Or a restaurant meal, dangit ~__^), or in rarer cases, people I have been speaking to online for enough years (seriously, I mean like six to eleven years) that I feel comfortable telling them my personal business even if we haven't met face-to-face; that last is a gut-feeling sort of thing. The second are authors or other "major peoples" I am confident do not give a crap about what I have to say and will never, ever check. People who are doing the LiveJournal thing for publicity.
There may be exceptions, but you could count them on part of one hand.
If you friend me and I don't friend you back, don't take it personally. It doesn't mean I'm ignoring you. If you could drop me a line letting me know where exactly I may have encountered you, that would also be appreciated.
Best,

(This policy -- BWAHAHAHAHAHA! sorry, still handling that in my brain -- is a work in progress, really... Jan 14, 2009)
